SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY PLAN FOR THE WARSAW FUNCTIONAL AREA
The sustainable mobility plan for the Warsaw Functional Area is aimed at further tightening of cooperation between communes, in line with the European Commission guidelines included in the document “A concept for sustainable urban mobility plans”. The mobility plan integrates communes’ activities around a common goal – improvement of residents’ mobility, simultaneously providing them with services meeting their needs near their place of residence and stimulating sustainable economic growth of the Warsaw Functional Area. At the same time, the Mobility Plan responds to the specific development challenges in the area associated with the continuous growth of the number of residents and residential areas, as well as the need to coordinate spatial and transport development.
In its hierarchy of goals, the Mobility Plan promotes and coordinates a number of soft and hard measures facilitating dynamic economic development, ensure mobility, and protect residents from the negative effects of transport. The goals are being implemented on the basis of the long-standing experience of communes in diagnosing the residents’ transport needs and respect for the distinctive needs and capabilities of the communes.
The plan refers to sustainable transport measures planned in the Warsaw Functional Area carried out by various central and local government bodies, provided that the measures are performed at the supralocal level.
