The beneficiaries will have at their disposal more than PLN 23 million to be divided among ten projects within the ITI under the ROP MV 2014-2020. Today’s signatories of the agreements were Marshal Adam Struzik, Direct of the Voivodeship Employment Office Tomasz Sieradz, Deputy Mayor of Warsaw Renata Kaznowska and representatives of the beneficiaries.

“This is very good news for young parents returning to the job market after maternity, parental and child care leaves. They very often face a very difficult choice of how to provide their children with the best possible care after return to work. Unfortunately, most children cannot go to nursery schools, as there is simply not enough of them. 955 new places is just a beginning. We hope that with the development of infrastructure for the youngest, more parents will be able to take advantage of this form of childcare and return to work seamlessly,” Marshal Adam Struzik emphasised.

“Increasing the number of places in kindergartens and nursery schools is a priority for Warsaw’s authorities. We are building new nursery schools, purchasing places in non-public institutions and employing day carers. We are introducing nursery-school vouchers. Over 10 years 26 nursery schools have been established. With PLN 15 million from EU funds 5 of our nursery schools will receive funds for equipment and management of the facilities. I am glad that non-public institutions will also benefit from the funding. This means more places for the youngest Varsovians,” said Deputy Mayor of Warsaw Renata Kaznowska.

Thanks to EU funds Warsaw, Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Piastów and Wiązowna will have a network of nursery schools, children’s clubs and places of care with day carers. In total 955 children will be able to benefit from the project. New places will be available in Praga-Południe, Żoliborz, Białołęka, Mokotów, Wola, Ursus, Bemowo, and in the Wiązowna, Grodzisk Mazowiecki, and Piastów communes. The beneficiaries will get more than PLN 23 million within 10 projects under Integrated Territorial Investments – the Regional Operational Programme for the Mazowieckie Voivodeship for 2014-2020.

“Once again Masovia is becoming the centre of change and innovative forms of development. The new nursery schools and children’s clubs in the capital city and communes near Warsaw are a positive sign for all institutions wishing to join us in the future. Further competitions will constitute another opportunity to create solutions which will not only provide places of care for the youngest but also enable their parents to return to their jobs,” Director Tomasz Sieradz recapitulated.

The largest pool of EU funds, i.e. more than PLN 15 million, will be allocated for two projects in Warsaw. Thanks to the adaptation of the existing and new facilities in Żoliborz, Praga Południe, and Białołęka, places for more than 700 children will be available. Subsequent projects, this time implemented by private entities, involve new places in Wola, Mokotów, Praga-Południe, Ursus, and Bemowo districts. 100 new places for children will be provided in the area of Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Wiązowna, and Piastów.

Who will benefit from the projects?

Creating new places of care for children aged 3 or less will help more than 500 parents, legal guardians and other people taking care of children return to employment. The potential beneficiaries are persons after maternity, parental and child care leaves. Furthermore, new places of care will employ persons from disadvantaged groups on the job market, i.e. persons older than 50, long-term unemployed persons, people with disabilities, and individuals without occupational qualifications.

What level of service can be expected?

The newly created nursery schools and clubs will provide a high standard of service and will be comfortably furnished. The EU funds can be spent on the extension and adaptation of the nursery school infrastructure, including buildings, playgrounds with safe surfaces and fencing. Nursery schools and clubs will also be appropriately equipped, including furniture, lavatories, kitchen and bathroom equipment. High emphasis will be also placed on measures supporting the mental, motor, and cognitive development of children. Toys and educational aids will be purchased, and solutions will be implemented to enable the modification of spaces.

Integrated Territorial Investments for Greater Warsaw

Integrated Territorial Investments is an initiative which makes it possible to go beyond the rigid administrative borders of local government entities and for Warsaw and 39 nearby communes to implement joint projects funded by EU under the financial perspective for the years 2014-2020. One of the many assumptions of metropolitan cooperation is to increase the availability of services making it easier for residents to return to the job market after a break due to giving birth and taking care of a child. The capital city provides nearly 6,500 places for the youngest Varsovians. This is more than twice as many as in 2006. Among all 364 institutions in Masovia, over 55% are in Warsaw, but demand for such initiatives in the capital city remains very high.

With the adaptation of the existing nursery schools and children’s clubs and the adjustment of the newly created facilities, soon in Warsaw and three neighbouring communes 955 additional places for children up to the age of 3 will be available.
